Drummer Boy Project - Thousand Pounds

If N.E.R.D were riding through Shoreditch and stumbled on grime, completewith live instrumentation, it would sound a lot like this…” Mixmag

The Drummer Boy Project, made up of producer Jimmy ‘Drummer Boy’ Napes (who’s working with Eliza Doolittle and The Riff Raff but forged a career for himself in LA, making sync music for adverts), BM (the head honcho with London grime collective North Weezee) and vocalist Tonisha J, are unveiling their debut release, The Drummer Boy EP.

Grabbing studio sessions where possible to develop their sound, the trio will release a five-track EP later this year, leading with the trumpet-fuelled ‘1000 Pound’, a good humored tale led by BM about making your first grand and then wasting it down at the local shopping centre. Due for digital release August 30th on NorthWeezee/ Sculpted Music, they’re soon to announce a competition on drummerboy.biz that will see a fan walk away £1000 richer.

“I kept thinking I need someone to blame this on if this goes wrong. It was a big move for me as an MC known on the streets… I kept thinking ‘just blame it on the drummer boy’…”

Having roped his old football buddy Napes and North Weezee sing-jay Tonisha into the formula, two years later they’re hoping no one will be blaming them for spicing up the post-grime melting pot.

Keen to promote each member’s talents, ‘Funky House’ will see Tonisha stepping up as mic controller while on ‘Famous’, Napes also demonstrates his vocal abilities.
